Center for Integrative Studies

CIS has identified two priority areas of interdisciplinary work. The first, Restoring a Healthy Planet, will focus on reducing the destructive impact of human civilization on the health of the other living communities on our planet. The second, Creating a Just Society, will examine possibilities around creating a justice in a society that was, and continues to be, built on the exploitation and subjugation of other humans. We will create working groups this fall of faculty, staff and students interested in each of these topics. Please email Kathryn Leonard ( if you are interested in leading efforts in either of the priority areas.

CIS also offers minigrants to support interdisciplinary work on campus. The deadline for consideration in fall is Sunday, October 11, at midnight. Faculty, staff, and student groups are eligible to apply. The call for proposals can be found at:

Additionally, CIS will host monthly coffees in the Chive Courtyard behind Ojai Hall. Refreshments are provided thanks to the generosity of the Mathematics Program.
